Scott Toderash

Chief Technology Officer and President

Scott founded Rainy Day in 1998 with a vision. Manitoba is so full of small and medium sized businesses, all with the same needs as their larger competitors but yet there is a void where no company is willing to provide the professional and expert services that would put those smaller companies on a level playing field. After spending 10 years working in large corporate environments, Scott brought this type of expertise to the small business. Not only was Rainy Day a small business, but it was one that was willing and able to bring along the expertise of a big shop.

Scott has long been a proponent of open source technologies (OSS) and free software (GNU/FSF). Having built itself from the ground up based on free software, Rainy Day is now able to share the benefits through consulting with other small businesses. Over the years Scott has had the chance to become part of the free software community, to interact with some of its leaders, like Monty Widenius (MySQL), Larry Wall (Perl), Richard Stallman (Free Software Foundation), Eric Raymond (The Cathedral and the Bazaar), and others. It is Scott's influence that has made Rainy Day recognized in Winnipeg as a highly skilled Linux shop.

As Rainy Day's Chief Technology Officer, Scott oversees all of the technical projects undertaken for software engineering. Scott was the original architect of Rainy Day's broadband network. This network is now approaching 4000 nodes over 10,000 square miles of geographical area.

Scott has been involved with the Winnipeg Central Business Association for many years and currently serves as the Association's President (2009).

Scott actively works with Beyond Borders, an advocacy group that protects children from sexual exploitation.

Scott volunteers as a taekwondo instructor, teaching and hoping to inspire an active group of 50 children and 25 adults. Certified as an instructor by the World Taekwondo Federation's Canadian branch and registered with the world taekwondo headquarters (Kukkiwon) in Seoul Korea, Scott has dedicated many years to training to improve the body, mind and spirit.
